Message: Commander keen works just fine on my windows XP machine. It will be quite hard to tell what's wrong if you don't give any info about your computer. But you could read this guide, it might fix your problem:

Message: I loved playing Keen when I was a little girl. Even though I was no good at it.
So, in boredom, I googled keen today, because I wanted to play the games again!
Trouble is, I can't get them to work. I can download them fine, install and stuff, but when I start the games (all of them does this), it just says wait, the screen goes black and nothing happens.
Pleeeease help me - what am I doing wrong? Do I need something to play the game on a brand new computer?
I would really appreciate an answer

I'm a middle school computer applications teacher. It's simply great to find the Cammander Keen games. I played them myself nearly 20 years ago. My 7th and 8th grade students think they're as great as I did. It's nice to find games without all the blood and gore.
